In John chapter 3:14-15 we read, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”
That is the way it is with us. We need to be saved from ourselves by the power of God. In the wilderness Moses lead Israel as they complained against his leadership and following God. So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among them and many died.
Israel repenting of her sin sought forgiveness and healing. The Lord provided that healing through Israel’s willingness to set her sights on a bronze snake lifted up on a pole. Anyone who looked upon the snake would be healed (cf. Numbers 21:8-9).
You may find it of interest the next time you see an ambulance, if you pay careful attention you may notice the symbol of the snake lifted up on the pole which gives us the hope of God saving a life.
