Yesterday we were reminded of the Northern Belle going down in the Gulf of Alaska in April 2010. The four souls that were rescued called out for help by sending out a Mayday. When the US Coast Guard helicopter arrived they put their faith in it, and believed that it, along with its crew had the ability to save them from the windswept waves of a very cold ocean. Their faith was their salvation.
Who do you believe in? It is a fact of life that each of us will face many storms in life. At least one of those storms will bring us to the fact that our sins are greater than our ability to save ourselves. Sometimes others around us have even tried to save us, but we realize the rescue attempt has not been as successful as we would have liked. We still struggle in the storm. Hear Jesus’ words, “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” Jesus is saying is we believe in him we will be saved.
