On Being Born Again Part Twelve (20101224)
Nearing the end of our study on what it means to be born again we read in Ephesians 1:13-14 saying, “And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession…”
Keeping in mind that the gift of the Holy Spirit was given at baptism; also remembering that the Holy Spirit is given as a “seal” to indicate that those who have it belong to Jesus.
We have just read that God’s Spirit is given as a “deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.” This simply means that God’s Spirit upon the believer is like a “down payment or deposit” we would put on purchasing a house. It is a matter of “good faith that says we are good for the whole note. In a similar manner God gives us the Spirit at baptism promising that He will one day get us to heaven. How about you my friend, have you been baptized, do you have God’s deposit guaranteeing your inheritance?”
