“I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. 5 I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” (John 3:3, 5 NIV)
On another occasion you may remember Jesus words to Peter, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:19, NIV).
Many scholars believe this prophecy was fulfilled in Acts 2 when Peter preached the gospel on Pentecost at the beginning of the church.
Following that first sermon many asked Peter the question, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
In Acts 2:38 Peter, who has the keys to the kingdom replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Tune in next time as we continue to learn what it means to be “born of water and the Spirit.”
