We have been talking about Jesus’ words in John chapter three to Nicodemus and related Scriptures on baptism. Jesus said in John 3:5, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”
In another passage where Jesus is talking to his holy apostles he commands them saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20, NIV).
Here Jesus commands his disciples to make more disciples and to baptize them. Then he commands his disciples to further teach the new disciples all the things that had been taught them, and so on, and so on. For the purpose of our study, each new disciple that has been baptized is commanded to teach yet more new disciples to be baptized.
And why is this so important? Because Jesus said, “no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born again, born of water and the Spirit” (John 3:5).
