John the Baptist Risks It All To Make Straight the Path for Jesus (20101026)

I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.” (John 1:31, NIV)

I can’t help but think what it must have felt like.  Somehow God had asked John the Baptist to make straight the path for Jesus’ arrival, yet John the Baptist had never personally met Jesus.  To introduce the One who was to take away the sins of the world was of no little commitment.  Despite never having met Jesus prior to his inauguralization, that is exactly what John does, he risks his reputation and even his life to announce the beginning of the ministry of Jesus.  In the end John did die for his part in announcing Jesus’ arrival, and he did this my friend, so that you might know the Lord.
