John and the Sandals of Jesus (20101022)

He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”  (John 1:27, NIV)

Speaking of Christ, John feels that he is unworthy to even untie the Lord’s sandals.  This is remarkable given that John drew an audience from Jerusalem and all of Judea!  And it is even more remarkable in that many who came to hear John’s preaching were so subject to his message of repentance that they were found confessing their sins.  His ministry was significant enough to draw the attention of the Pharisees and Sadducees, the leaders of Israel.

But John, realizing the importance of his ministry, understood that the ministry of Jesus was of far greater significance.  As mighty in the spirit and ministry that John was, he still considered himself unworthy to be even the lowest servant to loosen the ties on Jesus’ sandals.

There is One coming, and his name is Jesus!  Are you humbly prepared to meet him?
