It was 79 years ago today that my dad was born. Last Monday, January 10, 2011, he passed on to glory. Other than the Lord Jesus Christ he has had the biggest influence in my life.
In Deuteronomy 5:16 we are instructed by the Lord to “honor our fathers.” I can have a lot of friends, a lot of co-workers, I can even have a lot of brothers, but I can only have one man to call father. I can’t help to think that there is another man that I can only have one of…it is Jesus. I can only have One Lord and I can only have One God.
It occurs to me, if I don’t honor my earthly father, I don’t honor my Lord’s command. If I don’t honor my Lord’s command, I don’t honor my Heavenly Father. If however, I do honor my earthly father, I honor my Lord’s teaching, and I therefore honor my Heavenly Father.
Your earthly father will not be here forever, why not honor him today and in so doing honor God.
