We so often want to think that we are “good enough.” But, we know deep down inside that we so often fall short and fail; that we are not good enough. We may even say to ourselves, “What would God want with someone like me anyway?”
The truth is none of us are “good enough” to go to heaven. Yet, many expect to go there (and I am one) when this life is over. How can this be? How can we honestly expect to go to heaven when we are not “good enough?”
Peter said long ago, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1:3, NIV).
God has not called us because we were good. Peter tells us that God called us because God is good! God has not called us because we were glorious. God has called us because he is glorious! If we are going to heaven, it will not be because of what we have brought, but it will be because of what God has provided through Jesus!
