You will remember it was Pentecost when Peter preached that first sermon in which many responded by asking the question, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
Peter responded by telling them that they needed to “Repent and be baptized” (Acts 2:38)
Last time we learned of what it meant to “repent” to “change our direction in life.”
Today we will briefly look at the meaning of the word “baptized.” It is a word that finds its meaning in the Greek language and it means “to immerse,” “dip,” “plunge,” or “bury” in water. Those who would accept Peter’s message would have to “repent and be baptized.” They would have to change the direction of their lives and then submit to baptism. Meaning they would have to be immersed, dipped or plunged in a body of water such as a lake, pond, stream or church baptistery.
In Acts 2:38 we read of two incredible blessings that come from baptism. Peter tells them they would receive the forgiveness of their sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit.
If you obey Peter’s words, my friend, you too can have your sins washed away and receive the gift of God’ Holy Spirit. You too can see the kingdom of God!
