“Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’
46 ‘Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?’ Nathanael asked.
‘Come and see,’ said Philip.” (John 1:45-46, NIV)
I like the way Philip handles what could have been a challenging situation. For many of us the temptation could have easily been to discuss or debate the probability of something good or not coming out of Nazareth.
But Philip did not want to miss out on the journey with Jesus while he stood around debating Nazareth. There was a far bigger question than the integrity of Nazareth at stake this day. The immediate question that had to be answered was if these two men were going to see Jesus. Rather than to enter into debate about Nazareth and Jesus, Philip simply challenges Nathanael to see for himself. With that same Spirit I encourage you to “Come and see Jesus of Nazareth.”
